A large part of the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking trail that goes by many of Boston’s historic landmarks, is in the North End. Altogether, there are 12 landmarks in the North End on the USA’s National Register of Historic Places. The landmarks include Paul Revere’s home and the Old North Church, which is where the colonial Americans signaled on April 18, 1775, via lanterns that the British Army was approaching in its effort to end the American Revolution before it gathered momentum.
